Coach Shaun

Shaun Garrity

Shaun Garrity, the owner and founder of Huron BJJ, has been a dedicated student of Jorge Britto for over a decade. His journey began at MTC in Windsor, where he honed his skills before moving to Stratford BJJ. Shaun's passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and his commitment to the sport led him to open his own gym, Huron BJJ, where he has cultivated a strong community of practitioners. Under Shaun's guidance, Huron BJJ has become a place where students of all ages can develop their skills, learn the values of respect and discipline, and strive for excellence both on and off the mats.

Jeff Hakkers

Jeff Hakkers, a blue belt at Huron BJJ, is our dedicated Lead Youth Coach alongside Shaun Garrity. Jeff has been a vital part of our morning coaching team since joining us in 2019, following his children's enrollment. Known for his commitment and passion, Jeff has also stepped into the competition scene, earning a handful of bronze and silver medals. His experience and enthusiasm make him a great asset to our team and a positive influence on our young athletes!

Wyatt Carey

Wyatt Carey is a cornerstone of our youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program and serves as a Lead Coach alongside Shaun Garrity. Wyatt began his BJJ journey in 2019 at another gym and became a valuable member of our team in 2021. A natural-born athlete, Wyatt brings a wealth of energy and enthusiasm to his coaching. Outside of BJJ, he’s a dedicated volunteer firefighter, balancing his passion for martial arts with his commitment to serving the community. Wyatt’s dedication and diverse skills make him an inspiring role model for our young practitioners.

SK Fenton

SK Fenton is a purple belt who has been a vital member of our gym since 2018. She joined shortly after her boys started training and has never looked back. SK leads our popular Sunday program, which includes Adult BJJ and Active Recovery—a unique blend of flow, strength training, and yoga. Known for her dedication, SK expertly balances home life, work, family, and Jiu-Jitsu, making her an inspiring example for our community. She also holds an impressive gold medal from the Ontario Open as a blue belt, the biggest tournament in the country.

Nancy Hamelin

Nancy Hamelin, a purple belt who has been training since 2019, is the head instructor of our Women’s Only program. She brings her extensive experience and deep passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to every class she leads. Nancy creates a positive and supportive environment that empowers women to excel in BJJ. In addition to her coaching, Nancy has an impressive competitive medal, a gold medal at the Ontario Open as a blue belt—the biggest tournament in the country. Her unique coaching style not only focuses on developing physical skills but also emphasizes mental resilience and discipline, helping her students reach their full potential both on and off the mats. Nancy's commitment to her students and her passion for the sport make her an invaluable part of our training team.

Brett James

Brett James is a standout blue belt at Huron BJJ with over two years of dedicated training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Known for his technical precision and brute strength, Brett is an avid competitor who never misses a day of training. His commitment to both his own development and the gym community is unmatched, and he’s always ready to step up—whether it’s covering an adult class or helping out with the kids’ program alongside Coach Shaun. Brett’s consistent success on the competition circuit showcases his dedication and skill, making him an invaluable part of our team. Whether on the mats or in competition, his passion and drive inspire everyone around him.

Jason Driver

Jason Driver is a no-gi and boxing coach and has been a vital part of Huron BJJ since we first opened. He began his journey with us in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and naturally transitioned into a coaching role when we launched our boxing program. With a boxing background that stretches back to 2013, Jason spent much of his time as a training partner for fighters preparing for competition, which made his move into coaching feel effortless. Now, Jason coaches both No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu and is one of the leaders of our boxing program, offering students a wealth of experience in both striking and grappling. His ability to break down techniques and his hands-on approach make his classes engaging and effective for students at all levels. With over a decade of boxing experience and a growing dedication to Jiu-Jitsu, Jason's commitment to helping athletes improve makes him an indispensable part of our coaching staff. His skill and passion shine through in every class, inspiring those who train under him to push their limits.
